Whats new for EVENT, Version 2.1:
Good news or bad news. Which do you want first? I'll decide!
The bad:
3 bug fixes, 1 major, 2 minor:
- Major Bug: When an EVENT was run from the command line, the program wouldn't
not read in the parameters from the config file until AFTER running the EVENT.
This would cause EVENT NOT to swap itself to EMS, XMS or DISK when running
the EVENT. This would not cause the program to crash but it did not work as
advertised either.
- Minor Bug: If an .EXE file was run in the DOS SHELL, the program would report
an error occurred while in the shell. If a mouse was being used, a hole would
appear after this error and the mouse was moved. This was more of an
annoyance then a bug, but still an error on my part.
- Very Minor Bug: When asked for the name of the batch file to edit, the info
window said to enter the name of the EVENT file. Not a bug, an eyesore.
- Program still ran without crashing itself, but bugs are bugs.
- What can I say, SORRY!!!
The good:
NOW, on to a better subject...WHATS NEW FOR 2.1!!!
- Previously mentioned bugs are fixed.
- A snazzy new look! A pseudo-GUI if you would. More mouse interaction.
- Added a .LOG file viewer.
- Only requires 6K in its shell. 2.0 required 15K.
- Screen toggle while running EVENT.
- Instead of EVENT editor removing EVENT from memory when the ESC key is hit,
it will just restore its previous contents and leave file in memory. If it's
a newly created file and ESC is hit, the EVENT will be removed from memory
and not created on disk (as before).
- The EVENT.CFG file is no longer needed. EVENT now saves its
configuration in it's .EXE file. Because of this, it is important that
if the programs configuration is changed, that the .EXE file not be
compressed using PKLITE or LZEXE. It can be compressed afterwards BUT
must be expanded if the configuration is to be changed. If you have
been using version 2.0, you must alter the configuration of your copy
of version 2.1, the program will not read in your old EVENT.CFG file.
Thats it for now! Not a lot of bugs/changes but enough to warrant a maintenance
release.
